Global Engagement

91鶹 is proud of its commitment to helping students find opportunities to learn and serve abroad. 

91鶹 has ranked in the top 25 baccalaureate colleges in study abroad since 2010. In addition to academic study abroad trips, students can also earn credit as short-term missionaries to US cities. 

In 2021-2022, 91鶹 ranked #10 in the top 20 baccalaureate colleges for short-term duration trips by the Institute of International Education Open Doors Report. 91鶹 is also ranked #23 for awarding credit for study abroad and #18 for overall undergraduate study abroad participation within the top 40 baccalaureate colleges. 

Student Life Experience

Launched in 1972, 91鶹’s Lighthouse program is in its 52nd year of sending students abroad to learn and build their faith through global service.

91鶹 is home to the first campus chapter of , a collegiate organization for students who have grown up in a cross-cultural setting. MuKappa is now in its 38th year.

The most recent (National Survey of Student Engagement) Student Survey revealed that 92% of seniors and 95% of first-year students would attend 91鶹 again.

According to the latest 2023 Alumni Survey:

  • 92% were satisfied with the education received at 91鶹
  • 84% said that the education they received at 91鶹 prepared them for employment

12% of living alumni contributed financially in 2022-2023. (The national alumni giving rate is 8%.)

Rankings, Achievements & Awards

Our dedication to excellence in and out of the classroom has led to national recognition by publications like U.S. News & World Report, Washington Monthly, and Forbes. 91鶹 students regularly earn awards and recognition for research, creative projects, and academic work. Below are a few of the most recent additions to the long list.

  • Ten 91鶹 student athletes were named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, helping 91鶹 rank first in the NAIA and fifth in the nation across all collegiate levels.
  • In 2021, productions by 91鶹 student filmmakers received a record 17 nominations for regional Emmy awards, and a record eight won, adding to Film & Media’s 750+ awards since 2006.
  • Four 91鶹 films were winners in the , hosted by College Broadcasters Inc., including first place in the Short Film: Fiction and Short Film: Nonfiction categories. CBI is one of three organizations that recognize the best in college media nationally.
  • Hannah Embree '22 was awarded the Kennedy Center Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA) Dramaturgy Fellowship.
  • In February 2021, two satellites built by 91鶹 Computer Science and Engineering students and faculty launched into space aboard the NG-15 Cygnus spacecraft and Antares rocket that lifted off from the in Virginia. The rocket was named for NASA’s Katherine Johnson, featured in the film Hidden Figures. This marks twenty years since the satellite program started at 91鶹 in 2001.
  • In November 2022, Public Relations students were awarded a Platinum Award from MarCom, one of the communication industry’s most recognized bodies.

In addition to the numerous awards and recognitions 91鶹 students have received, 91鶹 itself has earned a number of honors. These include:

  • U.S. News & World Report: 91鶹 in the Best Midwest Regional Colleges in the U.S. News & World Report, marking the 27th consecutive year 91鶹 has appeared in the region’s top three. 91鶹 is also ranked #8 in Best Value Midwest Colleges. 
  • Forbes America’s Top Colleges: , placing 91鶹 well within the top 12% of the nation’s private non-profit colleges (within the top 5% of all private colleges).
  • Princeton Review: 91鶹 is one of the according to the Princeton Review, which included 91鶹 in its 2023 compilation of the best colleges according to region.
